Police looking for suspect following suspicious fire

The Barrie Police Investigative Services is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male following a fire that took place on Tiffin Street early Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2017, just after 4 a.m., police responded to Barrie Auto Wreckers located at 456 Tiffin St., in the City of Barrie, after receiving reports of a vehicle fire.

Video surveillance captured a male lurking throughout the rear of the lot just after 2:07 a.m. The male is seen walking out of the camera view and a short time later a vehicle is observed driving towards the vacant neighbouring property, and at 3:15 a.m. the vehicle is engulfed in flames. As a result of the fire, several other vehicles in the vicinity also caught fire.

Further investigation found that a male had been picked up from the downtown core and dropped off just down the road from the auto wreckers at 2 a.m.

The Barrie Police Forensic Identification Unit conducted an examination of the scene and seized several pieces of evidence. The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office was notified of the incident and will be conducting a parallel investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.

The suspect is described as:
    •    Male, white
    •    Tall, thin
    •    Wearing a baseball hat backwards, t-shirt, jeans, dark high top shoes and carrying a flashlight.
