Police release suspect images in morning assault investigation

Victim transported to Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries following attack at Meridian Place

Barrie police hope members of the public can help identify several suspects who are wanted in connection to an assault that sent a male victim to hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries this morning.

On Monday, July 17 at 12:53 a.m., officers responded to 87 Dunlop St. E. for a report of a fight involving a 58-year-old man and a group of three male suspects and a female.

Upon arrival at the scene, police located the victim, who had sustained serious facial injuries. He was immediately transported to a local hospital by the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services and was later transported by air ambulance to a Toronto trauma centre where he remains as of Monday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives have obtained video surveillance of the incident "as it unfolded," police stated in a news release.

"The video clearly identifies the suspects being sought for this aggravated assault," police said.

If anyone can identify the people responsible or if you witnessed this incident, you are encouraged to immediately contact the Barrie Police Service by calling 705-725-7025, ext. 2601, for Sgt. William Pelan, or ext. 2627 for Det. Const. Jonathan Watt.

Police say further updates will be provided only as the investigation permits.
