Police say canine unit used to find fleeing teen

TAY TOWNSHIP - On Tuesday April 11, 2017 at approximately 4:18 p.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attend a location in Victoria Harbour Tay Township, Ontario after receiving information that a male had breached the conditions of his court order.

Police located this male a short time later and he was arrested. During the arrest the male ran from police. With the assistance of the Emergency Response Team and the OPP Canine the male was located in a residential area in Victoria Harbour, Tay Township, ON.

An 18-year-old male from Victoria Harbour who cannot be named under the authority Of the Youth Criminal Justice Act was arrested and has been charged with:

  • Fail to comply with sentence contrary to the Youth Criminal Justice Act 2 counts
  • Adult obstruct peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Mischief under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused is being held for a bail hearing at a later date in Barrie, Ontario.

The OPP would like to thank the members of the public who assisted the police in the apprehension of this accused.
