Police tracking suspect in today's hit-and-run rampage

'We know who we’re looking for. We know the vehicle as well,' says police official; There may have been as many as five fail-to-remain collisions, but no serious injuries

Police say they now know who they're looking for following several hit-and-runs in the city Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., Dec. 6, a BarrieToday reader messaged to say an erratic vehicle had caused crashes on Ferndale Drive, Cedar Pointe Drive and Hart Drive.

At the time, Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon confirmed there was an investigation underway.

Leon now says that, through the community's help, police are on the trail of the person believed to be responsible.

“We know who we’re looking for. We know the vehicle as well. It's just a matter now of locating the individual and finding out what the circumstances are that led to all of this,” Leon said Tuesday evening.

Leon said there may be as many as five fail-to-remain collisions related to the investigation, but stressed that no one seems to have been injured in any of them.

Investigators are receiving help from the people whom the vehicle is registered to, he added.

“We know exactly where the vehicle is registered and we have made contact with the family, who are working with us,” said Leon.

The vehicle is a silver, four-door hatchback.
