Police seek five suspects in car hopping incident

Barrie Police Service is looking to identify a group of youths who were car hopping, stealing from unlocked vehicles in a south-end neighbourhood overnight and then fled from police.

On Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 1:20 a.m. an officer located five males walking with backpacks and matching a description provided by a nearby witness who observed the group entering vehicles in the area of Blackbird Lane, in the City of Barrie.

While speaking to police, one of the youths attempted to discard items that appeared to be stolen. The officer suspected at this time the youths had been entering vehicles in the neighbourhood and placed them under arrest.

Two males provided their names to police and when the first male resisted arrest, fleeing from police, the other four also took the opportunity to run evading arrest.

The five males are described as:

Suspect #1:

  • Male, white 
  • 16-years-old
  • Blonde hair that was longer on top and short on the sides and back
  • Thin build, approximately 6"
  • Wearing a red zip up sweater, blue jean shorts and running shoes

Suspect #2:

  • Male. white 
  • 14-years-old
  • Thin build, approximately 5'1" 
  • Wearing a dark hoodie, base ball hat and appeared to have dark hair

Suspect #3:

  • Male, white 
  • Approximately 14 years
  • Thin build, approximately 5'1"  
  • Wearing a baseball hat and dark hoodie

Suspect #4:

  • Male. white 
  • Approximately 15-16-years-old
  • Stocky build, approximately 5'5"
  • Light brown hair that curled over his ears
  • Wearing a hoodie and baseball hat 
  • Possibly from the Angus area

Suspect #5:

  • Male, white 
  • Approximately 16-years-old 
  • Thin build, approximately 6"
  • Dark hair
  • Wearing a dark hoodie and pants

Police were able to recover two (2) backpacks of items that appear to contain stolen property.  If you had a vehicle entered overnight and items taken, please contact the Barrie Police Service Property & Evidence Unit to inquire about recovered property at 705-725-7025 ext. 2979.
