Police use dog to track down razor blade theft suspects

TOWNSHIP OF ESSA - On Mar. 18, 2017 at approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Nottawasaga Detachment and members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine Unit, responded to a shoplifting call at the Shoppers Drug Mart located in Angus, Essa Township.

Two male suspects were observed shoplifting razor blades from the Shopper's Drug Mart in Angus. When police arrived, the males were in a car in the parking lot.

As they were being arrested, they fled on foot. After an OPP canine track, the males were located and taken into custody. Further police investigation revealed a bag of various medications was also located in the suspects' vehicle.

Christopher Mckenzie, 42 years old of Toronto, and Garfield James, 44 years old of Toronto, have both been charged with;

  • CC 129(a) resist peace officer
  • CC 334(b) theft under $5,000 - shoplifting
  • CC 354(1)(a) possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • CC 145(1)(a) escape lawful custody

Both males were held for a bail hearing on Mar. 19, 2017.
