Police cruisers are shown outside the emergency department at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Monday night as a section of the department was closed due to a safety precaution related to a patient.

A section of the local hospital’s emergency department was closed Monday night to allow officials to deal with a safety precaution surrounding a patient, which included assistance from the police.

On Monday evening, a patient was brought to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) with minor injuries resulting from an “incident in the community,” corporate communications manager Donna Danyluk told BarrieToday.

“As a safety precaution, the RVH emergency department (ED) team, in collaboration with Barrie Police Service, temporarily closed the ED’s purple zone in order to complete a risk assessment,” she added.

The department is colour-coded as part of its triage treatment setup, with purple designated for resuscitation or trauma.

Danyluk said RVH security was placed at the entrance to assist with answering patient and family questions.

“It was determined the department was at low risk, no further action was taken, and the temporary closure was lifted,” she added.

Danyluk said due to privacy laws, no further information will be provided in relation to the incident.
