INNISFIL - On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 10:30 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service Marine Unit officers were called out for a Search and Rescue
operation on Lake Simcoe.

A boater had called 9-1-1 to report that he had run out of fuel with two persons aboard, only one life jacket and minimal safety equipment. In addition, his cell phone battery was down to 6 per cent, making it difficult for him to communicate with rescuers.

The vessel, a 18-foot Bayliner, was located off Long Shoal and towed in.

The operator, a 24-year-old man, was charged for Failing to have sufficient life jackets.

This event could have had a tragic ending. If you are planning on sailing anywhere, make sure you have a fully charged cell phone, a signalling device, a full tank of gas and and especially, enough life jackets for everyone on board.
