The South Simcoe Police Service is mourning the death of a retired police service dog.
Chase died Monday at the age of 11.
He served the force with his handler, Const. Brett Jacques, from 2013 to 2017, when Jacques retired.
Jacques was the service’s first canine handler, starting with service dog Sampson in 1998.
Chase got his name after school children were invited to submit names in a contest. More than 300 names were submitted, and Chase “best described what Chase liked to do best,” the service stated in a news release.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Chase and Brett for their dedication and service. Our thoughts are with Brett and his family at this time.”
