Impaired Driving

INNISFIL, ON - On Sunday, April 8, 2018 around 3:30 p.m., South Simcoe Police were called to the area of the 20th Sideroad north of the 5th Line for a report of a pick-up truck in the ditch with a driver who appeared to be injured or intoxicated. Police knocked twice on the window to get the driver's attention then instructed him to exit the vehicle.  Police detected an odour of alcohol and placed the man under arrest for impaired care and control.  He was transported to the North Division where he underwent breath testing.  The tests resulted in readings of nearly three times the legal limit.  The 32-year-old Innisfil man's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. It was also discovered that the driver was on probation for a Provincial Offences Act (POA) infraction from February 2018. As such, he was charged with Breach of Probation under the POA also.

Assault Bodily Harm

INNISFIL, ON - On Saturday, April 7, 2018 around 9 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a 9-1-1 call from a home in Belle Ewart.  When officers arrived, they found a woman outside the home improperly dressed for -3C weather. The 41-year-old woman reported that had been assaulted during an argument with her partner. She told police the man tried to prevent her from leaving their home but she managed to bolt and call police.  An ambulance was dispatched to care for the woman who had suffered a facial injury.  Police searched the property for the man who had left the house. He was found in a shed.  The 53-year-old suspect was taken to the South Division where he was charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm and held for bail.

Internet Fraud

BRADFORD, ON - On Saturday, April 7, 2018, around 4 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a Bradford home for a report of a fraud. A 20-year-old man told police he had been scammed of more than $1,000 after trying to sell a tablet on Kijiji. The man said that on April 3, 2018 he received an email from suspect who said her name was Rose Williams from Whitehorse, Yukon and claimed to be interested in purchasing the tablet but required payment for a PayPal fee. The suspect further demanded two more payments to complete the transaction and claimed the seller would be reimbursed. When the seller received yet another email - this one purportedly from the RCMP and demanding several more hundreds of dollars - he realized he had been victimized. Investigation revealed the money had been sent to Benin, Africa.

South Simcoe Police Service wants to remind our citizens to be cautious when conducting financial transactions over the internet. People are also urged to be extremely wary of unusual payment demands and pressure. Don't be a victim. Be aware. Call police if you have any doubts.

Extortion Attempt

INNISFIL, ON - On Saturday, April 7, 2018 around 12:30 a.m., officers were called to an Innisfil home for a report of an extortion.  A 55-year-old man reports that a woman he had befriended on Facebook attempted to extort several thousand dollars from him after she recorded a video via the internet of him naked.  The suspect threatened to post the video on several social media platforms and send it to his friends and family if the man failed to pay.  The man explained he did not have that kind of money and negotiated down to a much smaller amount. This is a common scam that affects single men.

Police want to discourage the public from sending naked pictures or have naked chats over the internet. There is always a risk when you share intimate photos.

Impaired Driving, Over 80

INNISFIL, ON - On Friday, April 6, 2018 around 11:30 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service was called by County of Simcoe Paramedics regarding a motor vehicle collision at a home in Stroud. When officers arrived, they saw a pick-up truck which appeared to have left the roadway and struck a car-port at the side of the house. The female driver and her male passenger told police they were on their way home from a sporting event. Police formed a reasonable suspicion that alcohol may have contributed to the collision. An Approved Screening Device demand was made resulting in a test fail. A 49-year-old Innisfil woman was arrested for Impaired Care and Control and Over 80. No one was injured in the crash.

Theft

BRADFORD, ON - On Friday, April 6, 2018 around 7:30 p.m., a 26-year-old Newmarket man arrived at the South Division to report a theft. The man said he was working as a furniture delivery driver at a home on Fletcher St. in Bradford when around 4 p.m. the work truck was entered while parked in the customer's driveway. The victim said he left the truck unlocked. When he finished the delivery he noticed his backpack had been rifled through and his tips from recent weeks were missing. A neighbour reported seeing a man on a bike go into the truck, take some items and then ride away. The suspect is described as white, late 30's to mid 40's and about 5'10". He had a thin build and a reddish, partial beard. He was wearing sunglasses, a grey beanie, grey track pants and a grey and black plaid hoodie. He was riding a blueish mountain bike with a grey cane on the front.

Police are asking anyone on Fletcher Street who happens to have video surveillance to check their recordings and advise police if they have captured the suspect on video.

From Friday, April 6, 2018 to Sunday, April 8, 2018 South Simcoe Police Service responded to 191 calls for service.
