Special constable suffers minor injury in cruiser crash

Barrie police say driver of the other vehicle was charged with failing to slow down for approaching or stopped emergency vehicles

A Barrie police cruiser sustained damaged rear wheel after a collision with a car at the intersection of Essa Road and Tiffin Street on Thursday.

A Barrie police cruiser was involved in a collision at the intersection of Essa Road and Tiffin Street on Thursday.

At 6:30 p.m. on June 20, police say the cruiser was struck by a car in the rear right corner as they were entering the intersection en route to a call “with emergency lighting and siren activated,” according to police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon on Friday.

The officer who was driving the vehicle was not injured, but the passenger, a special constable, suffered a minor injury, according to police.

Police say the “at-fault” driver of the other car was not injured.

The person were charged with failing to slow down for approaching or stopped emergency vehicles.

The police cruiser sustained damage to its rear axle.
