Speeding leads to stunt driving charge

GEORGIAN BAY - On Aug. 28, 2017 at approximately 12:26 p.m., an officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 400.

The officer observed a Lincoln MKX sport utility vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and determined the speed to be 155 km/hr. in a 100 km/hr. zone.

As a result of the traffic stop, Carmen Jeffery (age 54) from Toronto, Ont. was charged with stunt driving by excessive speed, under the Highway Traffic Act.

The vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days as a result of the stunt driving charge.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 5, 2017 in Penetanguishene, Ont.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
