South Simcoe Police Service officers are appealing for the public's help to identify suspects in a multi-jurisdictional investigation into thefts of vehicles and gas.
On Thursday, April 22, 2021, at approximately 5:30 p.m., police were called to a gas station on County Road 88 at Highway 400 in Bradford for a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim told police she was travelling north on Highway 400 driving her friend’s Ford Fiesta. The friend was driving the victim's 2006, white, BMW X3. The victim stopped to gas up the Ford and her friend also pulled into the gas station in the BMW X3. The friend went inside to pre-pay for the gas and left the BMW unoccupied with the keys in the ignition. Suddenly, an unknown male suspect entered the BMW X3 and drove away. The women noticed that a dark coloured Jeep appeared to be following the BMW X3.
The investigation has determined that the stolen BMW X3 was involved in two subsequent thefts of gas. One occurred in southwestern Ontario on the same evening the vehicle was stolen. The other was on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at approximately 5:10 p.m. at a gas station on Highway 89 at Highway 400 in Innisfil. The same night as the Innisfil gas theft, the Jeep was located in Mississauga. The investigation determined the Jeep had been stolen from a car dealership Etobicoke.
Investigators are releasing security camera images of suspects in an effort to identify them. Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has information regarding these occurrences, is asked to contact Constable Jeff Cowie at [email protected] or Constable Jon Ellis at [email protected], call 905-775-3311, 705-436-2141 or contact Crime Stoppers.
