A male teenager was seriously injured in a suspected stabbing in Barrie’s Johnson Street area Saturday night.
City police received a call at approximately 9:40 p.m. for a report of a male youth who had been stabbed.
The 16-year-old was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), then to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
“He had sustained very serious injuries as a result of the incident,” said Peter Leon, corporate communications co-ordinator with Barrie Police Service.
Police are still trying to determine what happened.
“There was a group of other males that were involved in this and that’s what we’re trying to do now is identify who those individuals are,” Leon said. “We’re not sure what the cause of this is at this point.
“We will be following it up with a canvass of the area today (Sunday) and our identification unit was on-scene last night as well as members of our criminal investigation division.”
Leon said Sunday morning that no arrests had been made and he had no information on whether a weapon had been found.
The investigation is ongoing.
