Man faces impaired charges after Tesla hits utility pole

A Tiny Township resident has been charged with impaired driving after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole Sunday.

Shortly before 3 a.m. on Dec. 1, provincial police say a local resident travelling along Champlain Road noticed a Tesla embanked against the pole at the 17th Concession intersection.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers were called to the scene and found the driver, who wasn’t injured.

As a result of their investigation, Varchas Srirangam, 37, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80 plus), as well as provincial offences failure to remain at the scene of a crash and fail to report a collision., 

The accused, whose driver's licence was suspended for 90 days, was released from custody and will appear in Midland court Dec. 19.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
