Two face stunt driving charges

SOUTHERN GEORGIAN BAYMembers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two drivers with stunt driving as a result of incidents of high speed driving on area roads.

At approximately 12:01 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 an OPP officer determined the speed of a motor vehicle, southbound on Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township, Ont. was 152 km/hr in the posted 100 km/hr zone.

A 19-year-old male from Toronto, Ont. has been charged with:

  • Race a motor vehicle - excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Speeding 50 + km/h over posted limit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

On Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at approximately 10:40 a.m., an OPP officer stopped a motor vehicle driving at 134 km/hr. in the posted 80 km/hr. zone on County Road 27 in Tiny Township, Ont. A 47-year-old male driver from Wasaga Beach, Ont. has been charged with:

  • Race a motor vehicle - excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Speeding 50 + km/h over the posted limit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The two accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Penetanguishene, Ontario at a later date.

As of June 26, 2017 speeding has been linked to 30 road deaths on OPP-patrolled roads, compared to 17 in 2016.
