Two injured, two arrested in Tiny Township crash

Driver facing charges including impaired operation, cocaine possession following single-vehicle collision Thursday

Two people were injured and two were arrested following a crash Thursday in Tiny Township.

A collision Thursday in Tiny Township injured two Christian Island residents and resulted in two people being charged.

Shortly before 11 a.m., provincial police say a Jeep was being driven eastbound on Concession Road 12 when it crashed into trees at the intersection with Overhead Bridge Road. Two of the occupants were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

During the investigation, police seized drug paraphernalia, Southern Georgian Bay OPP stated in a news release.

Martin Monague, 55, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs)
  • Obstructing a peace officer
  • Failure to comply with a release order other than to attend court
  • Failure to surrender an insurance card
  • Operating a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Being a Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver
  • Careless driving causing bodily harm
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance (cocaine)

He was further arrested on an outstanding warrant from a police service in Western Canada in relation to an ongoing investigation there.

He was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.

Devon Assance, 30, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested on outstanding warrants from a neighbouring police service. He was transferred to the custody of the other police service.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
