Two Wasaga residents charged after shooting investigation: OPP

Police responded to reported shooting on Mosley Street and arrested two people at the scene

Huronia West OPP arrested and charged two people following a reported shooting in Wasaga Beach on March 20. 

According to a news release from the OPP, the incident occurred around 1:35 p.m. on Mosley Street and one victim suffered "moderate" injuries that were treated by paramedics at the scene. 

Police arrested two people who were still at the scene when police arrived. During the arrest, police say officers seized 0.8 grams of fentanyl. 

The next day, March 21, OPP used a warrant to search the home of one of the accused and seized three air pistols. 

Derek Pushie, 48, of Wasaga Beach is facing the following charges: 

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Firearm - use while committing offence
  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Robbery with weapon
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin)

Michael Cain, 40, also of Wasaga Beach is facing the following charges: 

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Firearm - use while committing offence
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Break, enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Robbery with weapon
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm

None of the charges have been tested in court and both of the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
