While Barrie police continue to track down suspects in Tuesday evening’s double shooting, more details are beginning to emerge about the investigation.
Police were still on scene Wednesday at a Bayfield Street home, south of Grove Street, after being called to a shooting at the residence around 5 p.m., on Feb. 15.
Two male victims were airlifted to Toronto-area trauma centres and were listed in serious but stable condition.
While police were tending to the crime scene on Bayfield Street last night, there was also a heavy police presence in the city’s east end, almost 2.5 kilometres away, at the intersection of Duckworth and Grove streets.
“(One of the men shot) was located at the intersection of Duckworth and Grove when an ambulance passed by and noticed the injured person,” said Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon. “It sounds like he was dropped off there.”
Leon acknowledged the distance would have been too far from the shooting scene on Bayfield Street “for someone with injuries that serious to travel on foot.”
A jacket on the road on Grove Street on Tuesday night had been taped off, with one officer at the scene describing it as "crucial evidence."
While no arrests have been made in the case, police have said they are looking for “more than one” suspect.
The home on Bayfield Street where the shooting happened is a "multi-tenant" residence, according to Leon.
“I would assume, at this point, that the other residents of the home have had to make arrangements to stay elsewhere while the investigation continues,” he said.
Numerous drops of blood could still be seen on the ground Wednesday morning in the parking lot behind the Bayfield Street home.
Police want to speak to anyone who may have information or who may have been in the area around the time of the shooting. Investigators can be contacted at 705-725-7025, ext. 2131.
