The driver of a Lamborghini as well as an accomplice are facing charges following a police chase that started in Vaughan.
On July 7 at about 12:50 a.m., members of the York Regional Police Emergency Response Unit clocked a white Lamborghini Urus being driven at more than 200 km/h on Highway 407, near Dufferin Street. The force’s Air Support Unit was called in.
The Lamborghini was followed to a residential street in the area of Leslie Street and Summerdale Drive in Markham. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver took off but struck a tire-deflation device that had been deployed by the Canine Unit. The driver kept trying to evade police despite losing a tire on Highway 407.
The vehicle was followed to an apartment building in the area of Red Maple Road and Oneida Crescent in Richmond Hill. Officers tried to block in the car, but the suspect purposely drove into marked cruisers and escaped, police said in a news release.
The Air Support Unit continued to observe the vehicle as it travelled west on Highway 407. It was followed to an industrial area in Brampton, where the driver exited and tried to flee in an accomplice’s car. When police moved in to make an arrest, the second suspect attempted to drive away, running over an officer’s foot in the process. The vehicle was stopped and both suspects were arrested.
Samuel Ugbo-Adeosun, 21, of Brampton, has been charged with dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer and failure to stop after and accident.
Keenan Adu, 22, of Brampton, has been charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
Police are asking witnesses, including those who have dash cam footage, to come forward.
