On Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at 5:40 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers attended a home in Cookstown for a domestic assault.

Domestic Assault

INNISFIL - On Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at 5:40 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers attended a home in Cookstown for a domestic assault.

Responding officers spoke with a woman who told them that her husband had ripped the screen door off the home and assaulted her during an argument. The man had fled when he knew police had been called. Officers also learned that the suspect was under a Peace Bond to be of good behaviour.

Later that evening, the 38-year-old man surrendered himself to police. He was held in custody for a bail hearing, charged with Domestic Assault, Mischief and Fail To Comply-Peace Bond.

The victim did not require medical attention.

Fraud

BRADFORD - A Bradford woman had a close call with a fake cheque. On Aug. 29, she told South Simcoe Police Service officers that she received a letter and a cheque in the mail. She was offered $16,000 to put an advertising wrap on her car. She was to forward $6000 of the funds to a suspect when the cheque cleared her bank.

The cheque was deposited but found to be fraudulent. No funds were lost.

Overpayment scams are common and seem to good to be true. Never forward money to a third party.

Damage To Construction Equipment

INNISFIL - On Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, staff at home building site in Churchill discovered damge to their equipment. Sometime over the weekend, suspects damaged a broken lock on an excavator and sand in both the gas and oil tanks.
