Two people were injured in a wrong-way crash on Highway 400 early this morning.

OPP responded to a report of the collision at around 3:20 a.m. on Monday, June 24.

A vehicle was apparently travelling southbound in the northbound lanes, starting at Mapleview Drive in Barrie and continuing over several kilometres, when it struck another vehicle around Highway 89 near Cookstown, according to police.

Both drivers were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 51-year-old Toronto man has been charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving.

“When someone’s impaired, they don’t see signs,” OPP Const. Scott Stratton said. “Obviously, alcohol was (allegedly) a contributing factor to him going the wrong way down the highway.”

Aurora OPP is still investigating. They’re asking anyone with information on the incident to call 905-841-5777.

“If anyone has dash-cam (footage) or witnessed it, we’re always looking for that kind of stuff. Always, always," Stratton said.
