INNISFIL, ON - A 23-year-old Scarborough woman is facing numerous charges including impaired driving after officers stopped a speeding, wrong-way vehicle in Cookstown.
On Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at 2:18 a.m., an officer on patrol observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed westbound on Highway 89 east of Highway 400.
The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle accelerated westbound and entered the eastbound lanes. The vehicle continued driving on the wrong side of the road for more than 3 km which included two blind hills on Highway 89 between the 5th Sideroad and Highway 27.
A speed measurement of 122 km/h in a posted 50 km/h Community Safety Zone was obtained before the vehicle came to a stop at a red light at County Rd. 27 while still on the wrong side of the road.
The officer spoke with the female driver and detected an odour of marijuana and alcohol. A roadside breath test for alcohol was conducted. As a result of the test, the woman was arrested for Over 80 and transported to North Division for further testing.

She was released with a January court date. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded.
Innisfil man faces impaired driving charges after RIDE check stop
INNISFIL, ON - A 37-year-old Innisfil man is charged with impaired driving and Over 80 after officers stopped a vehicle at a RIDE check.
On Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018 around 2:30 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were conducting a RIDE program at the 10th Sideroad and 10th Line of Innisfil.
Officers detected an odour of alcohol coming from a vehicle that was stopped. Following a roadside breath test, the driver was arrested for 80 and Over mgs. He was transported to North Division for further testing.
Charges: Impaired driving and 80 mgs and Over
He was released with a January court date. His licence was suspended and his vehicle was impounded.
Driver Flees RIDE Stop
INNISFIL, ON - A 27-year-old Barrie man faces a number of charges after a vehicle evaded a RIDE check and fled at a high rate of speed.
On Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 at 9:30 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were conducting a RIDE program at the 20th Sideroad and 2nd Line of Innisfil when a vehicle was seen making a U turn to avoid the RIDE stop.
An officer attempted to pull over the vehicle but it continued to travel at a high rate of speed through a posted 50 km/h Community Safety Zone. Moments later the officer located the vehicle in a ditch after the driver lost control trying to avoid a vehicle stopped at a red traffic light at Killarney Beach Road.
Police recovered a legal amount of marijuana in the vehicle and a cup of open liquor. The man who was driving and his female passenger were treated at the scene by paramedics.
Charges: Dangerous Operation, Flight from Peace Officer, Stunt Driving, Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available, Having Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor
His vehicle was impounded and his driver's licence suspended for 7 days. He was released with a court date in January.
Impaired e-bike Driving
INNISFIL, ON - A 50-year-old e-bike rider is charged with impaired driving following a vehicle stop in Innisfil.
On Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 around 6 p.m., an officer was patrolling Innisfil Beach Road near the 25th Sideroad when he saw an E-bike driving without a headlight on.
The officer conducted a traffic stop for the Highway Traffic Act violation. Investigation revealed the driver was suspended from driving and not allowed to be operating the vehicle.
The officer detected an odour of alcohol and after attempting a roadside breath test, the driver was placed under arrest. He was transported to the North
Division where further testing was conducted.
Charges: Impaired Driving, Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Content (BAC), Operation While Prohibited
His vehicle was impounded. He was released with a January court date.
Under the criminal code, it's an offence to operate a motor vehicle, including an e-bike, while impaired by alcohol or drugs. If you remove the pedals from an e-bike it is no longer considered an e-bike but an illegal vehicle.
Drug impaired driving/dangerous operation
INNISFIL, ON - A 30-year-old Innisfil man is charged with drug impaired driving after a citizen called 911 to report a suspected impaired driver.
On Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 at 8:20 p.m., police were called to the area of Sideroad 20 and Line 7 in Innisfil. A caller reported that a vehicle was driving erratically with its 4-way flashers activated.
Police conducted a vehicle stop on Yonge Street near Line 5. Drug paraphernalia and a bag of suspected drugs were found in the vehicle. Based on evidence
at the scene, the driver was arrested for impaired driving by drug and fail to comply with recognizance.
He was transported to the North Division for further testing.
Charges: Operation While Impaired by Drug, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to Comply with Recognizance, Possession of suspected methamphetamine
He was released with a court date in January.

It has not been a good week.
The occurrences listed here are more than just the run-of-the-mill impaired driving arrests. Many involve multiple troubling factors that jeopardized public safety.
