Malcolm, I did not vote NDP but you are only 19 and I congratulate you on having the courage to enter this political race. Younger people usually are more creative, passionate and bring new fresh ideas to the table. What a great experience and I wish you all the best in all your future political endeavours.

Orillia has not done any favors for their neighbouring community of Oro. It would have created a larger pool for players allowing the associations to become more viable, more programming opportunities for all players and ensure meaningful competition. One administrative rather than two. A Teams’s name is just a name. I think providing youth more hockey opportunities is more important. 🥅 🏒

Never heard of North Simcoe AAA???? I have heard of North Central Predators AAA. Depending on the age group North Central definitely can and does compete with the larger centres. Playing A, AA and AAA there is a difference in skill level in the majority of the teams. Playing regular games all season vs AA teams rather than A teams will make the players work harder and help improve their skill. There is nothing wrong with “open borders” in hockey.
If all the Orillia kids chose to stay and play their hockey career up till U18 in their hometown of Orillia at the A level there definitely would of been many more OMHA Championships and Silver Stick wins for Orillia but those same kids at U18 who left Orillia to play AA and AAA in other towns and cities come out of hockey generally with more skill, speed, experience and discipline.

Disappointing voter turn out. Nice to keep the Orillia Terriers name but other than that, not beneficial to the kids development. Kids who want to excel in hockey and currently do, would much rather play at a higher level of AA to develop their speed and skill. Now for the kids who don’t necessary excel at hockey but have played with their friends for years, I am sure the parents of these children voted against as these are the kids that most likely would of had their spots on the team taken from kids that originate from Oro who are higher skilled hockey players. I am sure in time the OMHA will eventually force their hand and make the decision for everyone involved.

Something had to be done and I would rather see some early retirement packages and layoffs than the continued stress on our housing, healthcare, food banks and services. We can no longer continue with the alarming high rates of international students coming into our schools each year.

Customer and staff safety obviously is not being taken into consideration. Is the city of Barrie waiting for a tragic roof collapse before this owner is forced to bring this building up to standards. Waiting for a lawsuit?????
