A Barrie man charged in connection to an armed standoff with police in November made a brief court appearance on Friday.

A bail hearing has been set for Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Daniel Mitchell, who was 43 when he was charged, faces a slew of weapons charges related to a 16-hour standoff behind a commercial property on Bayfield Street in north-end Barrie.

Mitchell is being held in Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene.

None of the charges against him have been tested in court.

Police have alleged that a firearm was discharged, which led to the standoff on Nov. 19.

Mitchell surrendered peacefully in the wee hours of Nov. 20 and made his first court appearance later that day.

Out of caution, police took steps to cordon off the area and locked down nearby businesses and homes.

A publication ban against evidence presented in court remains in place.

Witnesses told BarrieToday at the time of the incident that an RV had been parked on the property, on and off, for the better part of two years.

The witnesses also told BarrieToday that there were indications that the RV was about to be towed.
