The City of Barrie is looking to spruce up your neighbourhood this summer and wants your feedback on where to do it.
Creative Barrie is bringing back the pop-up parks that were seen last year on Canada Day weekend at Owen and Dunlop streets, where a large patch of grass is laid down in a spot where it normally wouldn’t be, equipped with lounging chairs and other items for a park feel.
The city's community events programmer, Lindsay Babcock, said the idea was a hit during the July 1 weekend and Creative Barrie is working with other organizations to make it happen.
“A lot people loved the pop-up we had on Owen Street last year, so the idea is to take what we had at Promenade Days and expand it throughout different parts pf the city,” Babcock told BarrieToday.
“Our partnership with the parks department and Landscape Ontario has given us the chance to make this a bigger event than just the one weekend and we’re very excited for that," Babcock added.
The city wants people in the community to help decide where the six pop-ups will go in 2019.
Babcock said that's one of the most fun aspects of this program, as they’re taking suggestions from those who have them.
“If you feel there is a space in your community that would be a great spot for us to set this up, we want to know about it,” said Babcock. “This gives people a fun way to connect with the city and have a different look to a street or parking lot in their part of town.”
