NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF BARRIE

It’s budget time at the City of Barrie, which means it’s time for taxpayers to share their priorities through the City’s 2024 Budget surveys.
The online surveys ask residents to provide feedback on major services included in the city’s annual operating budget and the Service Partner budgets. Respondents can choose to increase, decrease or maintain spending for each area and learn about the service impacts associated with each choice.
“Every day, residents and businesses of Barrie use city services and see their tax dollars at work,” says Craig Millar, chief financial officer. “Residents are encouraged to take the budget surveys to provide feedback on how they would like to see their tax dollars spent ahead of city council’s 2024 budget deliberations.”
Feedback received through the surveys by Friday, Oct. 20 will be shared with city council during the 2024 Business Plan and Budget deliberations.
The budget surveys use approximate figures from major service areas in the city’s budget. They do not represent the entire City of Barrie budget.
Subject to council's discussions, the city services portion of the 2024 Business Plan and Budget is scheduled to be approved on Dec. 6, 2023. Service Partner 2024 budgets are scheduled to be approved in February 2024.
In addition to the surveys, City of Barrie property owners can use the city's Property Tax Calculator to view an estimated breakdown of how their 2023 tax dollars were used to fund city and partner services.
