One of Collingwood's former newspaper publishers has dug into his own archives for two unique items he'll be selling at the upcoming farmers' market.

George Czerny, formerly the publisher of the Enterprise-Bulletin, has made reprints of newspaper pages from 1977 and 1979 that tell the story of a ship built and sidelaunched in Collingwood. Among the articles on the pages is a list of the 905 people who helped build the Louis R Demarais ship and an aerial photograph of the former Collingwood Shipyards.

He also made reprints of a full-page story and five photographs from time he spent aboard the Collingwood-built freighter the Algoport when the ship was undergoing sea trials on Sept. 12, 1979.

Czerny has also put together a 20-page colouring book featuring local sites and landmarks called Colour Me Collingwood.

“There's nothing else like these in the world!” said Czerny in an email to CollingwoodToday.

He'll be selling both at the Collingwood Farmers' Market on July 13.

Czerny has been involved in other projects to highlight Collingwood history, including a display plaque at McDonald's restaurant on First Street.

According to Czerny, the restaurant supervisor Vince Schnieder is the son of one of the shipyards workers mentioned in the published list.
