City police are looking for a suspect in yesterday's crash which saw the driver flee from the scene on Bell Farm Road.

Barrie police are searching for the driver of a car who fled the scene of a collision in the city's north end yesterday afternoon.

On Wednesday at 2:21 p.m., police say officers responded to a crash on Bell Farm Road, at Alliance Boulevard, directly across from the Barrie Police Training Unit.

Responding officers, which included members of the training unit, learned that a vehicle which was travelling westbound on Bell Farm Road stopped for a pedestrian who was crossing the road using a crosswalk when they were rear-ended by another car, according to police. The driver of that car fled on foot.

Police set up containment in the area and conducted a canine track.

The canine track stopped abruptly near Duckworth Street and the northbound ramp to Highway 400.

Police say they are investigating the possibility the driver who fled may have used a cab to get away.

Police also alerted the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in the event the driver sustained an injury; patrols of the Georgian College campus were also conducted in an attempt to locate the suspect.

This investigation remains ongoing and no charges have been laid.

The suspect is described as a Black man in his late 30s, with dreadlock-style hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt.

Late yesterday afternoon, officers assigned to the investigation canvassed area businesses that may have security footage, but nothing was located that could provide investigative assistance, police say.

According to police, the driver and a passenger in the car which was struck did not sustain any serious injuries.

If anyone has information that may assist police or has dash-cam video of the collision or the aftermath, police are asking they notify them at 705-725-7025 and ask for Const. Salmon, who is the investigating officer.
