Midland Council has decided to disband its long-serving local police service and go with the OPP.
In much anticipated special council meeting Wednesday night, councillors voted for what was pitched as the more cost-effective provincial service.
"#MidlandON council has voted. OPP is the choice made. It has been my honour to serve this community. Thnks for your support over the yrs!" tweeted Midland Insp. Ron Wheeldon, who had run a public awareness campaign on social media about the pending decision.
The Midland Police Service has been in existence for more than 100 years.
