NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF BARRIE
*************************
The City of Barrie reminds residents that from Dec. 1 through to March 31, on-street parking is not permitted on city streets from 12:01 to 7 a.m., and 3 to 6 a.m. within the downtown Business Improvement Area.
This ensures that the streets can be completely cleared and that emergency vehicles can get down the street. Overnight parking is also not permitted during this time period, Dec. 1 to March 31, in any hybrid parking lots or waterfront parking areas (lots and on-street) from 12:01 to 5 a.m.
Downtown off-street parking options (including parking lots and the Collier Street Parkade) are not included in these restrictions.
For more information about overnight parking restrictions, visit barrie.ca/OvernightParkingBylaw.
Plowing of city roads
The city has developed carefully planned levels of winter road service to combat the diverse weather conditions we see every winter.
Priority and secondary roads are serviced when at least five centimetres of snow has fallen, with cleanup completed approximately six to eight hours after the end of snowfall.
Residential roads are plowed when there is at least eight cm of snow with cleanup being completed 12 to 24 hours after snowfall ends.
Residents are invited to use the city’s Plow Tracker to see when their street was last serviced.
Sidewalk plowing
Sidewalk plowing is done on main sidewalks when five centimetres of snow falls and on secondary sidewalks when there is eight centimetres of snow. Check the Plow Tracker for real-time updates on cleared sidewalks and ensure safe travel throughout the winter season.
Residents are reminded that parking on lawns is not permitted year-round. Vehicles must be parked on the driveway, in compliance with the zoning bylaw (sections 4.8.1 and 5.3.6.1).
