Rain or shine, waterfront festival doesn't dampen many spirits

Barrie Waterfront Festival continues Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Centennial Park

The Barrie Waterfront Festival lived up to its name with rain throughout the morning and early afternoon, but that didn’t keep some folks away on Saturday.

The city’s annual event by the bay started Friday and runs until Sunday, with Saturday usually bringing in the biggest crowd of the festival.

It was a little slow at Centennial Park today, as the rain kept most people away, but a handful of festival-goers got out to enjoy what they could.

Chris Sargent and Lexi O’Neill came from Wasaga Beach and said they were happy with the event, not worrying about rain as they enjoyed some treats.

“It's something to do on a Saturday. Even though it is a bit dreary out, we figured we’d make the best of it,” said Sargent.

“They’ve done a really nice job with this," he added. "It's spread out, with lots of food and things to do. The music is great and the food is delicious. There’s nothing you can do about the rain, so just enjoy it.”

With many food trucks leading up to the midway area and a concert stage in between, there's truly something for everyone.

Sarah Butham and her two children said they will be back on Sunday as Peppa Pig will be there for the kids to enjoy from noon to 3 p.m.

“We stopped by today, but briefly, just enough to grab an ice cream and show the kids where their favourite TV character will be tomorrow," Butham siad. “The waterfront festival is always fun, and the rain isn’t a problem since kids love puddles.”

The festival continues Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
