'Disappointment': Why the Innisfil Skating Club has shut down

Organization has served community since 1971, but leadership says there was no 'viable solution' for keeping it going

The Innisfil Skating Club has dissolved, citing a lack of volunteers among the factors that led to the decision.

It appears the Innisfil Skating Club has landed its final Axel.

In an email to parents and guardians forwarded to Village Media, representatives announced the club has dissolved, effective Aug. 15, following “careful consideration and discussions.”

“This decision was not made lightly, and we understand it may come as a disappointment to many of you and your children,” reads the email, co-signed by president Val MacCullough and vice-president Jenna Cochrane. “We have explored various options to keep the club running, but unfortunately, we have not been able to find a viable solution.”

The email states several factors, including a lack of "volunteership," led to the decision.

“We want to express our sincere gratitude for your support and involvement throughout the years,” reads the email. “Your dedication and enthusiasm have been instrumental in making the club a memorable experience for all the children involved.”

Multiple attempts by Village Media to reach club representatives were unsuccessful.

The club has served the community since 1971 and most recently offered Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate and the STARSkate program, which introduced participants to figure skating. But it notes on its current board-of-directors page its reliance “entirely on the volunteerism of its members to run our many programs.”

The Innisfil club recommends anyone interested in skating programs contact other local organizations. Those include the Lefroy and Barrie skating clubs, and the Mariposa School of Skating
