The vehicle involved in multiple hit-and-runs in Barrie on Tuesday has been recovered by police, but the driver remains at large.
The silver Ford Edge at the centre of yesterday’s erratic-driving investigation was found abandoned behind a building in downtown Barrie.
At approximately 1:40 p.m., Tuesday, a BarrieToday reader said a vehicle had caused crashes on Ferndale Drive, Cedar Pointe Drive and Hart Drive.
At the time, Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon confirmed there was an investigation underway and that police had been in touch with the family of the person suspected of driving the vehicle.
Today, Leon also said the suspect vehicle almost hit two police cruisers near Bayfield and Wellington streets on Tuesday.
“One or two police vehicles were nearly connected with by this vehicle," he told BarrieToday. "With the vehicle in our possession, we are glad that danger is off the road, but we are actively seeking the individual who was driving.
“Our forensics team is working on the vehicle just to confirm the identity and we are heading back to the scene where multiple vehicles were hit and looking for any security video," Leon added.
There may be as many as five fail-to-remain collisions related to the investigation.
Leon yesterday there were no injuries, but confirmed today that one person was transported to a local hospital as a precaution when their air-bags deployed due to being hit by the vehicle.
