Midland man charged in kidnapping at Markham plaza

Police are looking for this vehicle in relation to a kidnapping that occurred Monday in Markham.

Three people, including a Midland man, have been charged following an alleged kidnapping Monday in Markham.

At about 3:25 p.m. on Oct. 7, police say the victim was at a commercial plaza in the area of Steeles Avenue and Ferrier Street and was confronted by three people and forced into a dark-coloured Hyundai Santa Fe with Ontario licence plate CTKC 540.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday, the three suspects were arrested and the victim was located with minor injuries in the area of Jane Street and Black Creek Drive in Toronto, York Regional Police stated in a news release.

Evan Gurdon Ferlias, 23, of Toronto, Junior Daniel Talbert, 19, of Toronto, and Osei-Jelani Joyce, 22, of Midland, have been charged with kidnapping and forcible confinement. Gurdon Ferlias was also charged with failing to comply with probation.

The suspect vehicle has not yet been located and the licence plate is not registered to the Hyundai Santa Fe.

Police say this was a "targeted incident" and there is no threat to public safety.
