It’s hunting season and South Simcoe police would like to remind hunters and community members of the hunting dates and safety tips to ensure that our shared spaces are safe for everyone.

Hunters are reminded to familiarize themselves with local regulations, including licensing requirements, designated hunting areas, and safety measures.

Season, dates and regulations:

  • Ducks and geese season, hunting open from Sept. 28, 2024 to Jan. 12, 2025
  • Small game (rabbits and partridge, etc.) season, hunting open from Sept. 25, 2024 to Dec. 31, 2024
  • Bow-hunting deer season, hunting open from Oct. 1, 2024 to Dec. 31, 2024 *excluding the two one-week shotgun seasons in November and December
  • Shotgun seasons (deer), hunting open from Nov. 4, 2024 to Nov. 8, 2024 (Monday- Friday only); and Dec. 2, 2024 – Dec. 6, 2024 (Monday-Friday only)

As with all hunting seasons, legal shooting time is half-hour before sunrise to half-hour after sunset, daily. In addition, there is no Sunday gun hunting permitted in Bradford or Innisfil.

For the various designated county forests in the area, hunting is only permitted in designated forests for active members of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) Association. No target shooting is permitted in the designated county forests only hunting.

Safety First

It is important to consider the impact on our local community members and the public. Hunters must adhere to the legal shooting times within designated areas. Mark your presence and know your surroundings. Hunters are encouraged to wear appropriate safety gear and high visibility clothing. Ensure firearms are handled responsibly and stored securely.
