City police are trying to identify a suspect in regard to arson and graffiti at a residence in D’Ambrosio Drive in Barrie on May 16. The case involves a vehicle fire at the south-end residence where racist graffiti was also sprayed on the home's garage.

City police hope grainy surveillance images can help identify a suspect in an arson and graffiti attack at a D’Ambrosio Drive residence in south Barrie on May 16.

According to police, the suspect appears to be a man of average build who was wearing a black hoodie with white writing on the back, black pants with reflective stripes on the bottom. He may have also been wearing flip-flops.

Police are investigating a vehicle fire at the south-end residence where racist graffiti was also sprayed on the home's garage.

Police did not comment on the graffiti, which said 'GO BACK.'

Officers responded to the scene shortly after 2:30 a.m. on May 16 in the area of D'Ambrosio Drive and Patton Road, near Yonge Street.

The description of the suspect was obtained from surveillance footage in the area.

“The picture quality is not the greatest. That’s what we’ve been able to obtain so far from the investigation,” police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday this morning.

“We have done a canvass on foot in the area looking for surveillance video and, unfortunately, that’s the best we’ve been able to come up with," he added. "It is believed strongly that that is the individual that is responsible. It would appear the residence was specifically targeted.”

There were no other residences affected in the area, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigator at [email protected].
