Police searching for man wanted in Bayfield St. store assault

Barrie police say young female victim was assaulted in shoe aisle Saturday night

City police are asking the public for help identifying a man allegedly involved in an assault on a woman in a north-end Barrie department store on Saturday.

The man is wanted following an assault which occurred on Aug. 3, shortly after 8:30 p.m., at a department store located on Bayfield Street, police say.

Police were made aware of the incident the following morning after the victim’s mother contacted authorities. Police immediately commenced an investigation after learning that an unknown man approached the young female victim who was alone at the time in a shoe aisle of the store.

The investigating officer attended to the store and was able to secure surveillance video which police say “clearly” shows the suspect arriving at the store at 7:43 p.m. in what is described as a grey 2006 to 2010 Dodge Charger with black rims and a strip of window tinting across the upper windshield.

Police said the suspect is then seen later in a shoe aisle where the assault took place.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s with shoulder-length brown/orange hair, which was worn in a bun, and a brown/orange scruffy beard.

The man was wearing a Boston Red Sox baseball hat, black hoodie with red writing on the torso, black cargo pants, black shoes and black sunglasses.

After the incident, the man quickly left the store and made his way to the parking lot, according to police.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or the vehicle can contact the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025 or email the investigating officer at [email protected].
