NEWS RELEASE

ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE

*********************
The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), New Tecumseth Fire and Rescue, the Township of New Tecumseth, Township of Adjala-Tosorontio and the County of Simcoe are requesting that members of the public be aware of flooding in the areas of Beeton, Tottenham, Hockley Village and Loretto.

Major roadways through these areas have experienced flooding. There are some road closures due to sink holes and high water levels.

Further rainfall is expected throughout the afternoon and over the next few days.

Residents and travellers through this area are to expect road closures on main arteries and side roads.

The public are reminded keep their children, as well as themselves, away from ditches, streams and rivers as they are swollen. This weakens their embankments and the water is fast flowing.

Recreation facilities, such as parks may be flooded throughout the affected area. Please check with the appropriate Township as to any planned activities during the next few days.

Emergency Services are asking the public NOT to use 9-1-1 to obtain information. 9-1-1 is strictly for emergencies.

New Tecumseth residents seeking non-emergent information on road closures or event cancellations are asked to contact the New Tecumseth Public Works at 705-435-3900 or 905-729-0057 ext. 1400.

Adjala-Tosorontio residents seeking non-emergent information on road closures or event cancellations are asked to contact the Adjala-Tosorontio Public Works at 705-434-5055.
