Barrie Police say they have identified a woman whose body was found near Dyment's Pond.

"Detectives are just notifying next of kin this morning so we'll release her name once next of kin are notified," said Const. Nicole Rodgers.

An autopsy is being performed on the woman's remains today at the Center of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.  Rodgers says the examination is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

It's not known if the post mortem will be completed today due to the decomposition of the remains, she said.

Police will be in the Victoria and Anne St. area near Dyment's Pond until some of those questions are answered.

"They're holding the scene until the post mortem is done to determine if there's foul play, natural causes or some other cause of death," Rodgers said.

Police officers were called to the area Tuesday night by a woman who called them from a nearby plaza.

The woman said a man had approached her and said there was a body near the pond.

Police did a ground search of the bush area and found the woman's body on the west side of the water.

Investigators were able to rule out a link to other missing person cases by the identifying features of the deceased woman, Rodgers said.

"There are signs of decomposition but we can't say how long the body had been there," she said.
